The Northern Alumni Association's first ever Meritorious Service Award was given this year to Wells Lamey for his life long service to the youth of this community and the athletes of Northern Montana College and MSU-Northern. Lamey has researched, compiled, and recorded a listing of all the athletes, their achievements and records throughout the University's history, preserving them for the future and contributing the data for the NMC/MSUN history "A Northern Reflection". His leadership and research led to the establishment and success of Northern's Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame. The data and information he compiled has been instrumental in nearly every one of the Hall of Fame awards. His service to the community of Havre and to the youth programs is unparalleled. Lamey was a founding member of the Babe Ruth baseball program in Havre and coached the first Babe Ruth team to compete in a state tournament. He has coached 5th grade girls basketball and volunteers his time reading to students in the elementary school reading program. Lamey was President of the Havre Softball Association and coached both men's and women's slow pitch softball and refereed for many years. A founding member of the Havre Public Schools Foundation, he now serves as their President. He was a member of the Northern Alumni Association Board of Directors from 1995-1999. He has participated in the successful nominations of Kathy Jarvis, Glenn Havskjold, Julie Callahan and Skip Grodahl, outstanding Havre athletes to the Montana State University Hall of Fame in Bozeman. His knowledge and service to all sports and the athletes from the area schools, and to the MSU-Northern Lights and Skylights is well known.
