A 1963 Havre High School graduate, Jim Kravik attended Montana Tech his freshman year, then transferred to Northern where he lettered in football, basketball and baseball. He was named to the All-Conference basketball team in 1967-68. While a student at NMC, he co-published an independent newspaper called "Sidelights," was a sports editor for the school paper and yearbook, edited a column called "Locker Room Shorts," and was a member of the Northern Signers. An American history teacher in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho for the past 27 years, he chaired the social studies department at Lake County High School for 7 years.

Jim stayed involved in athletics throughout his teaching career. He coached basketball for 20 years. Jim began officiating basketball in 1968 and high school football in 1971, served as president of the North Idaho Official's Association and was appointed assigning commissioner for Region I and served there for 15 years. He also officiated college football. He continues to work in college football in the Northwest Intercollegiate Conference.
