Gildford native, Donald R. Miller, came to Northern as an Eastern Montana College Yellowjacket where he was second in scoring with 11.6 points per game and rebounding with 10.7 rebounds per game. He led his high school team, the Broncs, to a 3rd place finish at state his junior year and the 1960 State Class C Championship his senior year. He was selected to the first team All State team for the second year and was among the top 20 players in the state to play in the North-South game. A full tuition scholarship to Northern was offered and accepted and he went onto earn first team All Conference honors in 1962-63 and 1963-64, leading the team in scoring with 15.1 points per game and a total of 410 points, rebounding at a 13.3 average, and assists with 4.8 per game. Miller graduated in 1965 with a Farm and Ranch Management degree. He is active as a member of the Lutheran Church, is a volunteer fireman, has served on the local school board and farm co-op boards as well as the Montana Grain Gower's Association. He was a past recipient of the Farmer of the Year award.
